Discovery

In order to find information on which to pursue a case, a civil litigant will engage in 'discovery;' that is, they will serve the opposing side with requests for interviews, documents and any other information that may be relevant. 

Organizing and marking up the results of these inquiries is a task often delegated to summer associates.

Juries

Researching jury awards:  how much do you ask the jury to award your client?  One of the best ways is to look at is what other juries have awarded others in similar circumstances.  Lexis, Westlaw and Bloomberg all contain reports of jury awards.  You can search by jurisdiction, type of case and on some platforms dollar amount.
